sick baby . . .

Oh my baby is sick, AGAIN.

We woke up to crying in the middle of the night Friday night.  I went in to check on her and she was burning up.  Her fever was only 101.  Throughout Saturday we carried on with our normal activities and just used some Tylenol as needed.  Thankfully Katie was here to help me out with cuddling and watching her since Jared had to study all day.  Saturday evening the fever got up to 102.6.  After some more tylenol and naked time she was ready for bed.  She slept pretty well and we were able to get through the night without using any more meds.  However, this morning was another story.  I took her temp. and she was back up to 102.3.  She is grumpy, clingy and whiny when she is feverish, but once those meds kick in she is a different kind of kid!  She's reading books with daddy right now and has been playing with her dolly.  Still not acting like her normal self, but that's to be expected.  I just don't know what's wrong with her, she had a stuffy nose at night, but that's the only other symptom besides the fever.  Those darn viruses . . .

not too much

There isn't anything really exciting or boring to report around here.  We've been laying low so Makena doesn't get sick again before we head to Florida.  I think I have her figured out though.  She got a cold every time she was breaking a new tooth, thus why the last cold lasted 3 weeks, she was breaking 4 teeth through and it took 3 weeks for them all to come in.  I had figured that was the case, but I wanted to see if everything went away after that last tooth came through and sure enough, as soon as it broke through she was as healthy as a horse!  Luckily we have a few more months before any more teeth come in.  Next is the 2-year molars.  Blah.

Today Makena's cousin is coming over for a few hours, so that should make for some good entertainment for her!  It'll be nice for her to run with somebody other than me.  Honestly I think she is going just as stir crazy as me this week.  Yesterday she was a nut, so we went to Target and she was as happy as a clam.  We just walked around and I got her an alphabet puzzle.  I think she just wanted to get out.  I can't blame her.  We did get out the other night after supper when she was grumpy too, we got a new pet.  Daddy named her Chewy.  I will post pictures later today or this weekend.  Makena likes to watch it.  It's really just more work for me though!  I don't mind, I've never had one and it's not too messy.

I'll write more later, when something interesting happens in our lives . . . (you may be waiting a while)

Monday is a fun day!

There isn't really anything fun going on in our lives, but there isn't anything bad, so I'm going to chalk it on the calendar as a good day!  I went to the chiro today and then headed to Target to get me second pair of glasses tightened.  No Makena didn't mess these up.  The screws just keep loosening.  After that we came home and she went right to bed.  I was able to get a nice workout AND shower in, so that was fantastic.  Lunch was great and after some more playing, the second nap is underway.

No big plans for tonight and this afternoon.  It sounds like Jared is going to be working late, so it will just be the 2 of us for most of the day/night.  Perhaps we will head to toy-r-us or something.  Not that I'll buy anything, but it's fun to look.  We already did all of our Florida shopping for Makena (she didn't have ANY summer clothes). I decided to go on the cheap and buy little t-shirt short sets from Kohls.  They were $3/piece.  Not too shabby.

We already have swim suits and a swim shirt.  She also has swim shoes, which will come in handy playing on the beach and at the kids area of the pool.  I'm getting pretty excited for our trip.  It will be nice to get into some warmer weather.  We have 1 activity planned for each day, but that's it, so we should have lots of down/hotel time.  Which will be fun too!!

I'm off for now, ttyl!

Swim day!

We had swim lessons today, and daddy came to watch!!!!!  Makena loved it, she kept waving to him and saying "hi".  It was so cute.

We also had a good day of playing around the house and having fun.  For lunch I cooked up some kidney beans in a can of tomato soup with a bunch of chili powder.  It was a "chili soup", LOL.  Makena LOVED it.  She ate over half of the concoction herself, between 2 meals, but still.  What a crazy little girl.  We didn't  give her any soup, but she ate lots of beans.  We'll see how tomorrow treats me in the diaper category.  :o)  I also whipped up some beef stroganoff for us for supper.  It was SO good.  All you need is:

1 lb. hamburger
Pepper
Sprinkle of cumin
1 medium onion
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup sour cream
Egg noodles - make according to package

Brown the hamburger with the spices and add the onion half way through the browning process.  Then once the hamburger is ready add the can of soup and sour cream.  Heat through and serve over egg noodles!!

Here are some other pics I took today:

Picture day!

I practiced with my camera quite a bit and I got some cute pictures - toward the end of our photo shoot.  :(  I HAVE to remember to adjust that white balance earlier!!  Here is a cute one of Makena and me.

Ohhhhh :(

We were having such a great day!!  We started off with a quick visit to the chiro then a shopping fiesta at Kohl's, I didn't find anything to buy.  Strange, I know!

After a morning nap she ate a nice filling lunch which was surprising since she ate a huge breakfast.  After some playtime she wanted to go up and nap.  So, we headed to the stairs.  I couldn't figure out why the gate wasn't opening all the way so I looked down and was horrified. OH NO, her left hand ring finger was trapped in the swing gate handle.
Safety 1st Lift Lock and Swing Gate
I smushed it when I was lifting the handle (the grey part above) to open the gate.  She didn't make a peep until I let her finger out. Then the pain hit and I haven't ever heard her cry like that.  I felt so bad, it was completely my fault for not watching her hands the whole time when we were going up.  I wrapped her hand in an ice pack for about 5 minutes, but then she wanted to go to sleep, so I brought her in a laid her down.  It has put a slight damper on what I though was a good day . . . I'm sure she'll wake up fine, but I still feel horrible.  She was moving her fingers all around, so nothing is broken.  Oh my baby . . .

Weekend Wrap-up

Whew - this weekend was interesting to say the least.  Saturday we had swim lessons in the morning and that went very well.  Makena did the "all done" sign about 5 minutes from the end, since she was pretty insistent, we left lessons early.  She was clearly cold and tired.  After our shower I started to change her and in the process I took off her swim shoes and her little toes were blue.  She was definitely cold.  Good thing I brought a nice warm fleece outfit to change into.  Since she was so tired I decided I could workout up north and we should head out right away.  The drive went well and all went well at Grandma and Grandpa's . . . until the middle of the night.  Makena wasn't feeling well, I presume because of the shots on Friday, and she was awake and crying from 1am to 5am.  It made for a tough night for Jared and me.

Sunday was a nice Valentine's Day/Grandma's birthday.  We had a fantastic lunch and Makena took some nice naps.  She DID have a lot of catching up to do.  We decided to leave in the early afternoon and we were glad we did since the roads started accumulating snow about 10 minutes from home.  Makena was  a completely different child once we got home.  No more whining, crying, and ALL laughs and giggles.  She was clearly glad to be home.  Of course, we all like to be at home when we don't feel good.

Today started off well.  She got up around 6:45 but stayed in bed talking to herself until 7:15.  After some breakfast we watched some cartoons and played until it was time to go to the chiropractor.  After that we headed out for some grocery shopping!  I got us lots of yogurt, cheese, and veggies for another fun filled week of eating healthy!    Speaking of healthy Makena has had a TON of asparagus in the last 2 days.  Grandma had it for lunch yesterday and sent the leftovers home with us.  She had some for supper last night and lunch today.  Lunch was interesting since I think the only reason she woke up from her morning nap was because she was hungry.  I ended up laying her back down after eating and she went right back to sleep.  Oh, I hope she gets better soon.

I did it.

I took us out of the the ecfe class we were in.  It just wasn't for us.  They are really going to focus on "separation", and Makena doesn't have any problems with that.  The class was set up like this: come in and play with your kid for a 1/2 hour, then snack, then play with your kid more.  I can do all of this at home.  I don't need to PAY to do it.  So I un-enrolled us.  I am really unhappy with ecfe.  Oh well.  I am just going to have us focus on tot-time and other activities I find around town.  Much cheaper than ecfe and more entertaining for me, because let's face it, it's all about me, OH WAIT, that isn't right, huh?  Okay, it's all about Makena, but she wasn't playing WITH the other kids anyway, she was always on her own playing quietly.  Today during the 5 minute separation, she was 1 of 2 kids (out of 12) that wasn't crying.  She really doesn't have a separation problem, I don't think the "teachers" believed me.  They kind of gave me that "yeah right" look when I told them she wasn't going to have a problem with me leaving.  They tried to give me that, "well some kids have a problem here when they don't have a problem with grandparents or at home".  Okay, I get that, but I go to the gym and she is left with them all the time and SHE DOESN'T CARE!! I think I was more frustrated with them trying to tell me how my kid was going to react instead of listening to ME about MY child.

After ecfe we came home for a quick nap and lunch and then we went to Lifetime Fitness to start our 1 week trial at that gym.  I guess she was kind of whiny for them, but not too bad.  They told me she could have a sippy there (which I didn't know) so I will have one for her tomorrow.  It should make things a little better.

Then we came home and went for another round of napping!  Yep, I said we.  haha  I didn't mean to fall asleep with her, but I did.  I had laid with her in my bed until she fell asleep then I was going to move her, but then an hour and a half later, she woke me up.  It felt so good.  Secretly, I wanted to nap anyway, so it was nice.

After supper we went to Target for some things and then we came back and daddy was finally home (7:15).  She went to bed on time and we're ready to start a new day tomorrow!  I have a chiro appointment in the morning and she has her 15month check-up.  I do believe that she'll be getting some shots.  Oh goodie . . .

What a BIG day!

She woke up in her big girl bed and didn't even cry!  It was so nice to wake up to a talking baby instead of a baby crying because she wants out of "baby jail".  By the time I got to her baby-gated door she was standing there and talking to me - kind of yelling at me to wake up.  LOL

Huggies Snug & Dry High Count Diapers, Size 4, 150 DiapersAfter some breakfast we headed out to my chiro. appointment and then came home for play time.  She didn't last too long before she wanted to go take a nap.  Once again - no problems with going to sleep.  She really LOVES this bed!  I am VERY lucky.  She slept for an hour and a half!  Wow.  After lunch we met Grandma, Aunt Jenn, and Braden at Costco.  She got to have her afternoon snack there!  She sampled some cottage cheese and apple/cinnamon straws.  She loved them both, and I got away with a free snack.  Of course I spent enough money on everything else.  Those darn diapers add up fast!  I'm trying Huggies for the first time since our free samples ran out when she was a newborn.  I figure it doesn't really matter since we're going through them so fast due to attempts at potty training.

After a quick stop to Target we headed home and she is asleep in her bed once again.  She did take a tumble out of it this time though.  I'm pretty sure she was standing up and tipped off.  I don't think she'll try that one again.  Once I comforted her and laid her back down she didn't even TRY to get up again.  Hopefully after her nap she is up for more playing.  We have a v-day gift to open from Grandma and a new outfit I bought her for her dolls.  She also has a new ball.  This child is OBSESSED with balls, and this one has glitter, even better (thank you Grandma)!!

My BIG GIRL!!

My baby is officially a big girl as of today.  She is sleeping in her toddler bed as I type.  I am so proud of her.  It took us a while to get used to her bed, actually I had to exhaust her in order for her to actually sleep in it.  I tried laying her down at her normal time and it was a game of get in/out of the new bed.  I gave up trying to play the game and got her up so we went to Target and then to the chiro.  She was very tired when we got home so she laid right down and went right to sleep without a fight.  Ahhhh.  This is what her bed looks like:

NOW, to potty train!!  I think I can do it.  She is interested, so perhaps by the end of next week?  Oh, that would be SO nice!  I'm not going to push her though.  She already knows when she has peed, she lays down RIGHT after she pees.  I think it's because the day she wore big girl underwear she had to lay down everytime she wet herself to get her underwear changed.  She has laid down after a pee ever since that day.  That day was about 3 weeks ago!

Cell Phone catastrophe . . .

Don't worry, not my phone, or Jared's.  We're talking Makena's cell phone here.

Parents Record a Voice Cellphone (Random Colors) Cell Phone

I think she slammed that thing on the floor one too many times.  It is officially dead.  I decided to take out the batteries instead of wasting any more and just let her use her imagination with it.

We sound like a clinic waiting room in this house.  Makena and I are coughing and blowing and sniffling non-stop.  I didn't really start until yesterday, but she has been yucky since Thursday.  I just hope she's good to go by Thursday so we can go to ecfe.  One thing that I do like about this, she is extra cuddly!  She spent a whole half hour laying on my lap yesterday just watching "the wedding singer".  She liked the music in it.  She really hasn't been sleeping too much extra lately, but I noticed I have been sleeping better if I take some ibuprofen before I go to bed now that I'm sick, so I decided to give her a dose before bed too, and WOW she slept GREAT.  I should have done that the first 2 nights she was sick.  It's hard to know what she feels like though, until you get sick yourself.  These were definitely the hero in our house:
Motrin Dye Free Concentrated Berry Infant Drops- 1.0 FL Oz

Today I skipped my chiro appointment and we aren't going to go to tot-time or anywhere else since the roads are so bad.  I was hoping to get to the chiro, but it just isn't worth trying.  Makena has been enjoying channel 2 this morning, since we haven't been home in the mornings to watch lately.  She is playing with her babies and learning about letters and dinosaurs!  :)

Funny comment from Makena today:
I was bringing her downstairs after her morning nap and she was sitting on my lap waking up.  I was kissing her cheeks and I asked her, "Who is my chubby cheeks?"  Her asnwer, "dada".  LOL  Too funny.

ECFE?

We had our first ecfe class and I wasn't too impressed.  Of course, I will give it a fair shot, and I was tired and grumpy.  Makena seemed to have had fun, until the end.  I could tell she was getting tired.  She was actually coming over to give me hugs.  I loved every one I got, but I also knew that was her way of telling me that she was done.  Unfortunately, we had another 1/2 hour of class after the hugs.  She made it through without a meltdown and took a really good nap once we got home.  Another thing that bothered me is that about half way through the class she started coughing really bad and got a runny nose and was sneezing . . . I'm hoping there was a kid in there that has a cat, but if not, she is sick, AGAIN.  Then WE were that rude family that brought the sick kid.  Ugh, I don't want to be that person.  I think she may be sick though, we DID go to the gym, so she was around new kids that probably weren't the healthiest.  It's okay though, it will help build her immunity . . . right?

She's IN TROUBLE!!!

Makena decided that today would be the day that she was going to break my glasses.  She snapped the one arm right off.  Didn't even hesitate, just grabbed them, pulled, and SNAP.  I couldn't even react besides take my glasses out of her hands and tell her in a very stern voice that she was very naughty.  Of course, being the emotional child she is, she started bawling.  I didn't even care.  I walked out of the room and had to calm down.  Luckily I still have my old glasses, so they are back.  Thankfully, my prescription didn't change from last time.  I'm going to go to Target to see if they can do anything about it tomorrow.  I'm sure not, but it's worth a shot.  I'm pretty sure that they aren't even 90 days old yet.

I also was having a bad day.  I was overly tired and sore (from the chiropractor) and I didn't get a workout in today.  It was an off day.  I should have just worked out so I would have felt better.

Once Jared got home, my night got better.  We all ate then he took over with Makena and I did the dishes, cleaned the rest of the kitchen then was able to come downstairs and WANT to play again.  We made it about an hour before she was ready to go to bed.

Tomorrow will be a good day.  We have our first ECFE class in the morning.  Hopefully it really wears her out so I can get my workout in during the morning nap, like I used to.  I don't like doing them at night once she is in bed.

Oh my . . . .

There is one lucky little girl in this house . . . Makena's cousin Braden was nice enough to let us borrow some of his little people and pop-ons set and she is loving it. Her new favorite is the playground for the little people.  She is making animals, people, really anything that will fit, go down the little slide.  It's pretty cute!  She also likes to make the horses eat out of their trough.  Actually she just likes to push the section down to make the sounds, but that's okay, at least she is playing.  I'm using the animals to show her what to do, and she is catching on pretty quickly.  She is starting to push the trains and cars around too.  Oh the fun that we're going to have together.  I think I'm going to go to e-bay to see if there was some type of castle set.  I have a couple of dragons and rock fencing, so it must go with something.

I found this:
Little People: Lil' Kingdom Castle Set
I've found that you can get some pretty good Little People deals on there.  I think I'm getting into this more than Makena.  That's not weird, is it?   I may just call it quits on searching though.  I have a whole Little People country in my basement the way it is!

Perhaps this would be better for Makena.  Brooke has this one though, so perhaps she will outgrow it soon, but I doubt it.  She's only 3.

Here are some of the sets Makena has or has inherited or been able to borrow (I am leaning toward not buying any more myself, we've been lucky enough to not buy any of these the way it is):
Fisher Price Little People Noah's ArkFisher-Price Little People Lil Pirate ShipLittle People Animal Sounds FarmLittle People Horse Stable Playset
Little People Fun Sounds PlaygroundLittle People Zoo TrainFisher Price Little People - Sarah Lynn And Her Camping AdventureFisher Price - Little People Lil' Movers Airplane
Fisher Price Little People Fairy TreehouseLittle People A to Z Learning Zoo PlaysetLittle People Lil' Mover SUVFisher Price Little People Fire Truck

I haven't brought out the pop-ons yet.  I think we'll save those until next week when all the people get packed away.

Too bad it's snowing so much outside. I was going to have us adventure out to the library today.  I think we'll stay home and be safe.  I do have a chiropractor appointment tonight, but I don't mind driving around alone, I just don't want Makena with in case we get into an accident.

Monday, Monday da da - da da da da (the song)

We are at the beginning of a new week and new month.  Just great!  We went to tot-time this morning and Makena made it an hour before the tired bug bit her HARD.  She would whine and cry and come running to me to pick her up.  Then she finally did the all done sign so we left.  When we got home we were going up the stairs from the garage into the house and she tripped and hit her face on the metal piece on the top step.  Oh MAN - that was a cry fest.  On top of being tired, she got hurt.  It left a mark, so we'll see what that looks like once she wakes up.  Hopefully it heals up fast.

We also did a intro visit at the chiropractor for me this morning and she did SO good in her stroller.  I have mild scoliosis, so that's great . . .  I'm actually the one that pointed it out, on the screen, I said "oh that is quite the curve in my back" and he replied by telling me what the cause was.  I also have off the chart nerve issues in my neck.  That could explain those headaches.  I have a "new client" meeting tomorrow night, so I will get adjusted at that.  I hope they can fix me up in just a few visits!!
