4th of July weekend

Friday was a fun start to our weekend.  Jared got off of work early and we played in the backyard as a family before we headed up to his parents house.  Well, actually Jared played with Makena while I packed and Matthew either rode on my back or took a nap. I had this brilliant idea that leaving late would mean less traffic.  Little did I know that everybody else would be delayed as well. As we waited for the storms to roll through I watched the radar and we headed out in-between storm cells. We left around 8 and we STILL got held up in traffic around Mill Lacs.  Go figure.  We arrived up north about a half hour later than we normally would, not too bad.

Saturday was a fun day for Makena.  She got to play in her pool, in the lake, and with her cousins.  I would say that her favorite was playing on the slip-n-slide. We ended up having to grab her hands and then sliding her down, but she didn't seem to mind.  She did like to run down and land on her butt at the end, but daddy thought that she may hit her head one of those times, so we switched her style up a bit. She had so much fun and crashed once she hit her pillow for the night.

Sunday was a little less intense and included a nap. Whew. We had a picnic in the tent grandma got for the kids to play in, her idea, and we played outside in other ways as well. Overall it was another good day, but to be honest I had a terrible headache and just wanted to crawl in a bed.  I pushed through.  I can't say the same about Monday.  I woke up with a sore throat (worse than the day before), a turning stomach, and a KILLER headache. Jared could see that I wasn't doing well and asked if I wanted to go home.  I did.  So we packed up and we were home by noon.  We did spend some time outside once we got home!  Pool, tag, catching the ball, and whatever else Makena made up. After I re-hydrated myself my headache and stomach yuckiness went away and I just had cold symptoms.  Yahoo, I can live with a cold!  Too bad my kids had it first.

Today we went back to our normal routine and it feels good!

This is teamwork. This canopy was up in record time!
